Winter is Upon Us

Winter arrived a bit late this year, at least here in my neck of the woods. It's finally settled in, but we could use more snow—everyone around here will be counting on it come next summer. This shot captures an old barn tucked away in the middle of nowhere, with a backdrop that's usually pretty mundane. But today, blanketed in snow and bathed in that ethereal light, it takes on an otherworldly vibe. Hope you enjoy it.

This photo is from way back in 1976, snapped in northern Utah around this same time of year. I was shooting on film with a 50mm lens on my trusty Yashica 35mm camera—those were the days of pure analog magic. Everything was manual: focus, aperture, shutter speed, and ISO locked in by whatever film you loaded. 400 was too grainy for my taste, so this was likely 200 ISO. These days, with digital, I can crank the sensitivity up to 6400 without a second thought—talk about progress! By the way, do you see a horse?
