Astrophotography - Deep Space

I’m genuinely excited to share that one of my long-running projects has finally borne fruit.

Last night I spent several hours in my backyard photographing the night sky. I didn’t expect much. My yard sits under significant light pollution, and a fairly bright moon only made conditions worse. Ideal nights call for dark skies and a new moon—neither of which I had. Still, I wanted the practice so that when a truly good night arrives I’ll be ready.

I was outside from about 8:30 pm until 1:00 am, and ended up with 156 usable frames (plus a few that went straight into the digital trash). This morning I spent another four hours processing them on the computer… and was more than a little surprised by what appeared on the screen.

I simply had to share the result. I hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
