Shooting Stars II
Last week’s post was a bit tongue-in-cheek, but honestly, I’ve been pretty frustrated this spring and summer trying to capture starry night photos.
The best conditions for star photography are around the new moon, which only happens about once a month. I’ve had multiple reservations at Arches National Park that I ended up canceling due to clouds or rain. Last week I headed to my favorite dark sky spot and only got two solid nights out of seven. I had an equipment issue on the first good night, but the second night I managed to get this series of shots.
I was hoping for some Perseid meteors, but the shower is just starting to ramp up — it peaks around August 13. I’ll definitely try again if the weather cooperates. It’s been hot and dry here, yet somehow the clouds keep rolling in anyway. Not much rain, just enough clouds to ruin the clear skies.
